Joe Townsend: TOGETHER WE ARE TRUE STRENGTH
Joe Townsend is a Royal Marines Commando who lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan. He is now a member of the British Paratriathlon squad as well as an endurance enthusiast, previously competing Ironman and finishing 2nd In the World in the hand cycle category last year.
In 2012 Joe competed his first season of Para Triathlon picking up podium places in the European and British Championships and finished 6th at the World Champs in Auckland as the first European male to cross the line.
Joe is a qualified personal trainer and is currently studying a strength and conditioning science BSc at St Mary's University, Twickenham and hopes to get more disabled people into training and competing sport at an elite level.
Joe's goals now are to continue to improve his World ranking in the build up to Rio 2016 where he aspires to podium in the first Paralympic Paratriathlon event.
